Secure Mediation

A secure mediated network is defined as a network that contains the following two features:

  • Multiple service levels of mediated/segmented traffic, and;
  • End-to-end secured delivery with ability to connect into a playback device.

nuMetra’s suite of network layer “building block” products and services can be combined in several ways to address different sets of requirements of creating a secure mediated network and are licensed under an open-source agreement. The initial application of nuMetra’s secure mediation network solution will be to assist InterStream as a commercial sponsor in building the InterStream Media Grid.

Today’s existing unmediated Internet is not a secure networking environment. In a chaotic fashion, some “best-effort” Internet flows can garner more bandwidth from bottlenecks than others. Good examples of this are “greedy” TCP-based applications, such as peer-to-peer, which consume much larger volumes of bandwidth at network bottlenecks relative to other high-bandwidth applications. nuMetra’s Secure Mediation Control technology enables ISPs to fairly allocate bandwidth to all applications including new services communicating via ISTP.
